Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, has launched a fierce attack on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, accusing the APC-led Federal Government of political persecution, economic insensitivity, and deliberate neglect of his state.
The governor’s outburst followed the arraignment of Bauchi State Commissioner for Finance by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over an alleged $9.7 million terrorism financing charge, a development Bala Mohammed described as “shocking” and “politically motivated.”
Speaking on the matter, the governor said his name was improperly mentioned in the case despite his constitutional immunity, describing the move as an attempt to intimidate him for refusing to defect to the ruling APC.

Governor Bala also criticised the Federal Government’s controversial tax reform laws, warning that they would impoverish ordinary Nigerians and weaken state governments. He aligned his concerns with objections previously raised by labour unions, regional groups, and economic analysts, who have faulted the reforms for poor consultation, constitutional concerns, and potential harm to small businesses.
On infrastructure, Bala Mohammed accused the Federal Government of abandoning Bauchi State, claiming no federal roads, water projects, or meaningful interventions had been executed, while the state continues to shoulder security responsibilities.
He warned that the continued use of federal institutions against political opponents could deepen national divisions, insisting he would resist any attempt to criminalise or silence him for his political stance.
The EFCC has denied allegations of political interference, maintaining that its actions are based strictly on the law.
The confrontation highlights growing tensions between the Federal Government and opposition-controlled states amid Nigeria’s economic reforms and intensifying political rivalry.
